Survey Finds 60% of Americans Think COVID-19 Changed the Way We Work for the Better

Are you a fan of working from home or do you prefer to work at the office? That’s what companies are trying to find out in the post-coronavirus world.

According to WalletHub’s Coronavirus and Working from Home Survey, prior to COVID-19, only one in four American workers worked from home a few days a week. In addition, 14.5% worked exclusively from home.

However, the pandemic and social distancing measures forced businesses to close as employees and managers operated remotely for months. Companies like Twitter announced that employees will be able to work from home on a permanent basis.

Now, the survey aims to find out what Americans think about working from home both full-time and part-time, if they felt productive working remotely, what their thoughts are about returning to the office, and what they miss most about the workplace.

Turns out that an overwhelming amount of Americans, almost 60%, think COVID-19 changed the way we work for the better.

Additionally, a third of Americans believe that physical offices are a thing of the past.

However, not everyone is a fan of working from home. Around 50% of parents with young children at home said they were less productive working from home.

A third of Americans also believe that businesses should fire employees who refuse to go back to work with 41% believing that those who do go back to the office deserve to be paid more than those who choose to work remotely.

The survey also revealed that 61% of people did not believe their co-workers were more productive at home.

The option to work from home even affects home buying as 33% admitted they would choose home locations based on “proximity to family, nearby outdoor activities if office commute is not a concern.”

When it comes to what people miss the most about the workplace, 32% said it was their co-workers. In second place, 27% said they missed absolutely nothing about going into the office. This was followed by getting out of the house, having a routine, less distractions, and food choices.
