Watch the Video for Hayley Williams' First Solo Song 'Simmer'

Her album is due out on May 8

Hayley Williams of Paramore is stepping out on her own and has revealed the powerful video for her debut single, “Simmer.”

Williams is on the run in the clip directed by Warren Fu, running naked through the woods before a confrontation unfolds within the house. The pulse-quickening video builds and the song speeds to anxious levels, showcasing the singer flexing something unique and different from her GRAMMY-nominated group.

“I’m so ready and so incredibly humbled to get to share this project,” Williams says in a statment. “Making it was a scary, empowering experience.”

The song is our first sample from PETALS FOR ARMOR, Williams solo debut set for May 8.

“Some of my proudest moments as a lyricist happened while writing ‘PETALS FOR ARMOR.’ And I was able to get my hands a little dirtier than usual when it came to instrumentation. I’m in a band with my favorite musicians so I never really feel the need to step into a role as a player when it comes to Paramore records. This project, however, benefited from a little bit of musical naïveté and rawness and so I experimented quite a bit more.”

PETALS FOR ARMOR is a collaboration between Williams and some of her closest friends, pushing each other towards something new. “I like to think we all make each other better and the result is something that sounds and feels exactly as I’d hoped it would. Now that it’s time to put it all out there, I can finally exhale. I’m excited to let people in to experience a different side of myself that I’ve only very recently become familiar with.”

“Simmer” is the first new music from Hayley Williams since Paramore’s 2017 album, After Laughter. Hayley is also the co-founder of the vegan, cruelty-free hair color brand, Good Dye Young.
